Migration guide
Solar Fire 9 to Solar Fire X
Move your charts, custom files and supported settings into Solar Fire X. The import utility automatically looks for older Solar Fire libraries.
Before you start
Install and activate Solar Fire X, then close your older version. Back up your Solar Fire User Files folder and keep the old version until you have checked the import. Your original files stay unchanged.
Windows to Windows
Same PC: Select the library the import utility detects, then follow the steps below.
New PC: Copy your whole Solar Fire User Files folder, or a ZIP of it, to the new PC. Use Folder Browse or Zip File Browse to select that copy.
Windows in Parallels to native Mac
Open Solar Fire X in macOS, outside Parallels. The import utility checks shared Documents automatically; select the older library it finds.
If it is not found, make your Solar Fire User Files folder available in Finder, copying it out of Windows if needed. Then use Folder Browse or Zip File Browse.
Windows PC to Mac
Copy your whole Solar Fire User Files folder, or a ZIP of it, from the PC to your Mac. In Solar Fire X, use Folder Browse or Zip File Browse to select the transferred copy.
Moving from Solar Fire 8 or earlier
Solar Fire 7 or 8: Follow the same steps. Solar Fire 2–6: On Windows, the utility also checks older installation records and common userdata folders. Select the source it finds; browse only if it is missing or transferred from another computer.
Settings from Solar Fire 6 and earlier cannot transfer. Older charts are converted where possible; check the results before relying on them.
Run the import utility
- Choose Utilities → Import Charts, Files, and Settings…. If Earlier imports appears, choose Next.
- Under Where to import from, select the detected library and choose Next. Browse for a folder or ZIP only if needed.
- Under What to import, check the charts, files and settings you want.
- Choose Import. If asked, choose Replace Settings to use your old preferences or Keep My Settings to keep your current ones.
- Check the results, including Not brought across. Copy Results copies the report for support.
Check your charts and preferences
Open a few familiar charts and check their details and calculated positions. Check any custom wheels, pages and preferences you use. Keep your backup until you are satisfied.
Review or undo an import
Reopen the utility and select an entry under Earlier imports to review it.
Revert undoes that import and any later imports first, preserving files and settings changed afterward. Read the confirmation before continuing.
